what I learned in february

Today I’m linking up with Emily P. Freeman at Chatting at the Sky to share what we learned in February. Here’s what Emily has to say about the practice:

“At the end of every month, we have a regular practice here of looking back before moving forward. While some of the deeper, more in-process things I may keep private for a while, other things are fun to share here. And when you share things you’ve been learning, I always discover lots of fun tips, great new shows, and encouraging thoughts to begin the month.

We’re all at different spots on the journey, and these end of the month posts are a way to reflect, share, and celebrate on purpose.” {Emily P. Freeman}

WORLD NEWS

In no particular order here are nine things I learned:

1. While I love and adore my essential oils, I have found one that actually stinks like human body odor.  Ewww.

2. I do love the grocery shopping experience at Publix, but Bi-Lo just won my business. Between the beautifully displayed fresh produce, decent prices, Fuel Perks and now the knowledge that they offer a pretty decent gratis coffee bar, I’m hooked. Sometimes, (most of the time) it’s the little things.

3. I have always known L.L. Bean had outstanding customer service. What I learned is that there is literally NO statute of limitations on an item they will replace. I got a similar black toiletry bag in 1995. It had begun to fray a few months back around the zipper. I chatted with a customer service rep, they said to print a form and send it back for free and they’d send me a new one. Wow.

4. I also learned that my kids (ages 7, 9, and 11) actually don’t really like the circus. Who knew?

5. I have been watching Blue Bloods for several seasons now, and I have loved Chief Frank (Francis) Reagan’s office couches.  They are black leather, which isn’t my taste, but the shape and scale of them I love. As our own living room couches are turning 10 years old this year, I’m on the lookout for new couches. I learned what the style of couches I love are called. They’re know as the Chesterfield Sofa.

6. I learned that our library offers a one day grace period PAST the due date of library materials without the incurring of a fine. I wish I didn’t know this as I now have another excuse to become lax in returning items.

7. I am always on the lookout for ways to help my daughters (ages 9 and 7) help define an age appropriate, modest, feminine style. I have a few brands I will buy for them and don’t really ever vary that too much. My goal for the past few years is to build them a small capsule wardrobe that they can build many, many outfits from. (They are currently the same size and share clothes! Their choice, not all mine!)

I discovered a new (to me) app, that helps you build your closet. I’ve had fun playing around on the app and hope they will have a visual reference for putting together outfits they love. I supply them a closet with 100% of clothing their dad and I approve of and then they have 100% of the choice of what they want to wear. It’s been fun playing around with clothes and styles and looking ahead to spring.

8. My husband pointed out the fact that not only do tropical plants need lots of water, they also love WARM water to thrive. My plant is almost back to life, thanks to his wisdom and lots of warm water.

9. I have found a newish artist I love. Chelsea Moon has my vote for her arrangement of old-fashioned hymns. I’ve had “How Firm a Foundation” on repeat; it can be found on Hymn Project, Vol. 2.

“Prominent among Chelsea’s influences are singer/songwriters Alison Krauss, Mindy Smith, Sara Groves, Brooke Fraser, and Audrey Assad – all artists who reveal spirituality, vulnerability and strength in their music.”

And that’s what I learned!

Good to know about LL Bean. I’ve been trying to simplify and minimize (we now have four kiddos and the youngest are just 2 months and 5 months old), I want to invest less TIME on constantly replacing things! Definitely starting to shop more for high quality, long lasting items and this tidbit definitely reassures me there 🙂 Also, the app sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing what you’ve learned! Happy March!

Yes, Becca, LL Bean things last and last! I’m there too; wanting less but wanting what we have to last and stand up durably to our growing kiddos! =) Thanks for the feedback =)

Blue Bloods is currently mine and Richy’s favorite show. We have flown through all the seasons on Netfix. We love Frank and the whole Reagan clan! I love your blog and always have. I love the honesty in every post! Thanks you for writing it!

We are total Blue Bloods fanatics. Every family member adds a cool twist, although at times I get a little put off that Danny is the detective in EVERY case; Jaime is the on-duty cop for EVERY crime; and Erin handles all of their cases. New York is a big city. Anyway, glad to know you and Richy like it too! Miss you Brittany! Sure wish we could get in some softball swings this spring! =)
