It’s hard to believe that we are heading into our final year being stationed in Georgia. There are still so many sights to see and it feels like if I don’t get these things written down and planned out, it will be wheels-up before we know it and the opportunities will have passed.

There are so many local spots and other places within a few hours’ drive that I want to be sure and visit before our next assignment gets here. Some of these are easy to knock out in a day, others will take a bit more planning and preparation. In true #homeschoolmom form, I’m interested in compiling a great list of educationally inspired locales.

    The Varsity in Atlanta (hamburger joint, stand back and figure out what you want, because the minute you get in line it gets hectic).
    The aquarium in Atlanta (they have a “petting” component)
    The Yorktown in Charleston (a long day, best done when NOT hot -in fact put ALL of Charleston down for that.)
    The Slave Market in Charleston
    Jestine’s Kitchen in Charleston (a personal favorite place to eat)

    Georgia –
    Calloway Gardens
    Warm Springs (where FDR went to get treatment for his polio). Cute little shops and close to Calloway Gardens
    Infantry Museum at Benning
    (All the above are close together)

    One of my favorite day trips that we took when we lived in Georgia was to La Grange. I’m spacing on how far that might be for you. Might not be worth an overnight trip, unless you tie it in with something else. We went for the Hills and Dales estate but ended falling in love with the little “downtown” of La Grange. Old fashioned ice cream place and yummy pizza place. And super cute old house. When are you going to Charleston? I really want to go there!
